Highlights from our 2021 AM8ZING and Camp Out!

The kick-off for this amazing event took place Thursday, October 21 at 6:30 P.M. Game was played at Kroger Field in the Longship Club Room, (formerly the Woodford Reserve Room).  There were close to 200 friends of the camp that huddled up with our amazing coaches for our Camp Horsin’ Around Team!

Camp Horsin’ Around, a non-profit organization that provides an outdoor camp adventure for children whose health is compromised or have special needs, was privileged to honor our 2021 Amazing 8 Honorees at our Camp Out event. This year’s coaches are Dave Baker, Sara Holroyd, Robert Hall Jr., Molly and Barney Hunter, Marian Sims, Larry and Vivian Snipes, and Wilderness Trace Child Development Center’s Libby Suttles. These coaches represent some of the finest and most caring citizens who have dedicated their time, talents, and treasure to make our community a better place.

Thank you to the Dunbar String Quartet, Orchestra Director Rebecca Goff, who composed pregame entertainment. Throughout the evening other features were provided by Alex Simpson, Kyle Pezzi, and other heroes of the camp. Our awesome tailgating provided us with awesome appetizer options of crispy asiago asparagus, Parmesan artichoke heart, frank in a basket, and coconut shrimp. Then tackled the main course with a romaine salad, herb-crusted roasted turkey with sage bourbon gravy, southern cornbread dressing, country-style green beans, and silver dollar rolls. Finished with the sweetest part of the play with black and white petites fours.

The game statistics for the evening began with our silent auction. Online bidding for the silent auction started Monday, October 18 and ended at the end of the game. The silent auction was a big win! We want to say thank you to all of those who participated and congratulations to those who scored some souvenirs!

We then started our biggest drive with our live auction quarterbacked by Claire Crouch. Highlighted items for the live auction were guitars autographed by the Rolling Stones and the Eagles, get-away trips such as a trip to the Biltmore Estates, or a Houseboat on Lake Cumberland, and much more (i.e. tubs of signature wine!). During the live auction, we also provided our traditional horseshoe special appeal and some of the best plays were made during this time! A huge Thank you to those who participated!

We are excited to get our team, Camp Horsin’ Around, back on the field after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. We have reassembled an awesome playbook in order to take action for a successful 2022 season! Please join our team by continuing to support their upcoming season with donations and volunteer opportunities leading into the next season!
